Eoin Morgan confirms England captaincy stance amid injury concerns

Eoin Morgan has confirmed he will continue as England white ball captain as long as his dodgy back allows.

The World Cup winning skipper suffered a back spasm during the tournament which prevented him from batting against the West Indies, but it did not force him to miss any matches.

He batted in the next game against Afghanistan and smashed a world record number of sixes on his way to 148 at Old Trafford.

But the issue with his back is enough for him to be concerned about his long term future as an international cricketer.

If he gets fully fit and has confidence in his back then Morgan will continue to lead the side to the next global tournament, the World T20 in Australia in October next year.

"I need more time to think, that's the honest answer, it's a big decision, a big commitment,” said Morgan. “Given the injury I went through in the World Cup, I need time to get fully fit.

"It's a physical thing. I need time to get back fit. The amount of training I could do in the World Cup was limited.

"It's my back. I need the season to end pretty soon so I can have that time to physically get fit and know its not an injury risk, then I'll be able to make a call on it.

"When you lead you have to lead from the front. Hopefully that works itself out. I want to do it, but I don't want to let anyone down.”
