4.25am: A child is found with a screwdriver, miles from home, just after a burglary

A 13-year-old boy was arrested after police found him with a screwdriver and "numerous items" while responding to reports of a burglary.

Officers were called to Longborough Road, in Knowsley Village, at 4.25am on Friday.

The youngster is from the L13 area of Liverpool - meaning he was several miles, and the other side of the M57, from home.

He was taken into custody for questioning on suspicion of burglary.

Police said safeguarding measures were being considered.

His arrest comes just weeks after details were revealed of another child involved in a similar incident.

In that case a 14-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of going equipped for theft after being found in a Huyton street at 3.30am.

Police had attended Barford Road following reports of males acting suspiciously around homes. They were said to have had their faces covered.

Officers who attended the area found the 14-year-old hiding behind a vehicle on a driveway.

Screwdrivers and gloves were recovered during the incident.

That boy was from Halewood, meaning that he too was several miles - and in this case the other side of the M62 - from home.
