3Rs Horse Rescue Centre near Gatehouse of Fleet in urgent appeal for cash due to coronavirus

An animal charity urgently needs cash funds to keep it going.

The 3Rs Horse Rescue Centre at Kirkclaugh, near Gatehouse, is looking after more than 80 horses.

Susan Murdoch and Gordon Chisholm, who run the facility, rely on donations but visitors are banned due to Covid-19.

Susan said: “We are now up to 83 residents and we only budget for 55 so this has really taken a toll on centre finances.

“Springtime would usually be one of our busiest times and sadly we can’t offer our very popular horse safari.

“We had nine horses arrive the last Saturday before lockdown and we are constantly being asked to take more.”

Susan has been providing weekly updates about the horses the centre is looking after.

One of them is Monnie, one of the horses known as the Merrick Seven that were rescued from the Galloway Hills in 2018.

Donations can be made at www.gofundme.com/f/keep-the-centre-going or email 3rshorserescuecentre@mail.com for more information.
