3rd Test: Rohit Sharma may open the batting at Gabba against Australia

NEW DELHI: The experiment of Rohit Sharma batting at No.6 failed miserably in the pink-ball Test in Adelaide as the India captain returned with scores of 3 and 6.

Australia bounced back to win the Adelaide Test by 10 wickets and level the five-match series 1-1 in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy series.

Now with the third Test set to get underway at The Gabba, Brisbane from Saturday, there were enough indications from Indian team's practice session on Thursday that Rohit will be back to the opening spot.

According to reports, the out-of-form Rohit spent time facing the new ball in the nets.

The Indian skipper faced all pacers Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep with the new ball.

In the lead up to the second Test in Adelaide, Rohit has not faced the Indian pacers with the new ball.

Rohit is woefully out of form and has gone above 20 just twice in his past 12 Test innings with only one half-century, with eight single-digit scores.

KL Rahul opened for India in the first two Tests but may return to middle order for the remainder of the series with Rohit reclaiming the opener's slot alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal.
