NEW DELHI: Ireland's poor over-rate during the third and final ODI of their recently finished series against India at the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot has resulted in a 10% match fee penalties.
In accordance with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which deals with minimum over-rate offences, players are penalized 5% of their match fee for each over in which their team fails to bowl within the designated time, according to a statement released by the International Cricket Council (ICC).
On-field referees Kim Cotton and Akshay Totre, as well as third umpire Virender Sharma and fourth umpire Vrinda Rathi, made the accusation.
Even after taking time allowances into consideration, Ireland was still two overs short of the necessary objective, hence Match Referee G S Lakshmi of the ICC International Panel of Match Referees assessed the sentence.
"Ireland captain Gaby Lewis accepted the sanction and pleaded guilty to the offence, eliminating the need for a formal hearing," added the ICC.
India secured the series 3-0 with a record-breaking 304-run victory in the third ODI on Wednesday. In women's ODIs, it was also the hosts' largest margin of victory.
