Nov. 18--The third of three Ingleside teachers charged with failure to report suspected child abuse by another teacher has surrendered to authorities, according to prosecutors.
The teachers, who at one point all taught at Gavin South Middle School, are accused of knowingly and willfully failing to report the abuse allegedly committed by fellow teacher Michael R. Vucic.
There is a $1 million arrest warrant for Vucic, 41, who is charged with predatory criminal sexual assault, criminal sexual assault and sexual assault.
The charges were filed after a former student of Vucic, a girl under the age of 13, told her grandparents about Vucic's repeated contact with her.
The other teachers are April Courtney, 34, of Wauconda, Michael Lanners, 38, of Lake Villa, and John Keehan, 40, of Elgin. Courtney and Lanners surrendered last week, but prosecutors had asked for the public's help in locating Keehan, who surrendered on Sunday and posted $5,000 bail.
The Class A misdemeanor charge against the three is the highest charge possible in this case, according to Lake County State's Attorney Michael Nerheim's office. As educators, teachers are mandated to report any suspicions of abuse or knowledge of abuse that is suspected to occur against any minor.
Vucic was arrested in Bosnia last month and is being held while authorities try to extradite him to the United States.
