The third batch of Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine arrived at Narita Airport on Monday morning.

The shipment contained 87,750 vials. If the stated six doses are withdrawn from each vial, the amount will be enough for about 520,000 doses covering about 260,000 vaccinations.

According to Pfizer Inc., the vaccine was transported from one of the U.S. pharmaceutical giant's production bases in Belgium and kept at an ultralow temperature.

The All Nippon Airways flight carrying the vaccine landed at the airport in Chiba Prefecture just after 10 a.m and taxied to a cargo area. The vaccine was unloaded in a warehouse, then transferred by truck to a storage facility outside the airport.
