£3million in fake designer gear discovered in Glasgow warehouse by organised crime cops

More than £3million in fake designer goods has been found at a warehouse in Glasgow.

The gear was discovered during a major police raid in the south side, and included dodgy watches, clothes, perfume and shoes bearing brands like North Face, Moncler, Ugg and Dior.

Around £6,000 in cash was also seized during the operation by serious organised crime cops, the Daily Record reports.

A 60-year-old man was arrested at the scene on Tuesday, June 15, but later released.

Robert Steenson, from Scotland's serious organised crime taskforce said: "This substantial seizure highlights the vital importance of multi-agency working.

"The buying and selling of counterfeit goods isn't a victimless crime and lines the pockets of criminal gangs as well as damaging legitimate businesses.

"It is also used by organised crime groups to fund other activities including drugs, guns and people trafficking.

"The products themselves are often dangerous and haven't been through any health and safety checks. Don't take a chance by buying them and being ripped off.

"The SOCT will continue to have a zero tolerance approach to counterfeiting and working with all our partner agencies, we will use all means necessary to help protect our communities and businesses from the real and present danger posed by organised crime."

Chief Inspector Shaheen Baber, local area commander for Glasgow South West, added: "Counterfeit goods have a detrimental effect on local businesses across the community and prevent reputable retailers from carrying out lawful business.

"They also cause members of the public to buy goods which are often substandard or with the belief that they are genuine items."
