£3m Ayrshire housing development opens on site of former council depot

Fourteen modern and energy-efficient homes have been completed on the site of a former council depot in Saltcoats.

The development at Springvale Gardens officially opened this week and is part of an ambitious North Ayrshire Council commitment to build 1,625 new homes across the region.

It includes six general needs houses, six homes suitable for wheelchair users and two amenity bungalows.

Councillor Jim Montgomerie, Cabinet Member for Green New Deal and Sustainability, said: “We’re proud of the work we are doing in not only expanding our housing stock but in delivering high-quality, modern, energy-efficient and affordable homes.

“Residents have already moved into their new homes at Springvale Gardens and we are delighted with the feedback we have received from them.

“We have one of the most ambitious house-building programmes in the country and it’s reassuring to know that our new homes are making a positive difference to people’s lives and to local communities right across North Ayrshire.”

The almost £3m development, supported by a Scottish Government grant of £800,000, was delivered in partnership with Hub South West with Ashleigh (Scotland) as the main contractor.
