Citing unpaid dues, 36 former employees of India Ahead news channel have approached a Delhi court against the company, Andhra Prabha Publications, former editor-in-chief Bhupendra Choubey and senior management staff of the firm, Bar and Bench reported.
Newslaundry had earlier reported on the issues faced by the channel and its staff. The channel was reportedly shut in 2023.
District Judge Abhitosh Pratap Singh Rathore reportedly issued summons on Tuesday to 11 defendants in the civil suit filed for recovery of salaries and other benefits amounting to Rs 1.21 crore.
The suit filed before Saket Court alleges that the company is capable of clearing the dues but there are “grave suspicions regarding the siphoning of funds and misappropriation of assets” within the Andhra Prabha group, according to Bar and Bench. The suit adds that the employees were given false assurances by the management but the funds were being “siphoned off to other related companies”. It has also been alleged that the company has also been “doing wrong to their clients who are giving them business by giving them advertisements to run on their channel”.
The court will next hear the matter on July 5.
