35,000 take jab, Lucknow crosses milestone of 27 lakh vaccine doses

LUCKNOW: As daily Covid vaccination rate continued to remain high, the state capital crossed the milestone of administering 27 lakh vaccine doses on Wednesday.

Total 35,427 people turned up to take the jab at 89 booths. While 23,004 took the first dose, 12,423 got the second of the two-dose course.

However, some had to go back disappointed from Rani Lakshmi Bai (RLB) Hospital due to a glitch in the server.

Chief medical superintendent RLB Dr Sangeeta Tandon said, “Names of these people were noted and they all will be vaccinated on Thursday.”

Total 27.3 lakh shots have been administered in Lucknow nine months after the start of mass immunisation campaign on January 16.

These doses were consumed in fully vaccinating 7.3 lakh people with two shots, while 12.7 lakh have been given one dose. The latter will get the second dose after completing the 12-16 week gap period.

This means that nearly 20 lakh people aged 18 years or above have taken at least one dose, which is 55% of the 36 lakh adult population of the district.

Meanwhile, four people tested Covid-19 positive on Wednesday. However, only one patient recovered. As a result, the number of active cases increased from 17 to 20.

Times View

It’s good to see that the high vaccination rate witnessed in August is continuing in September. As the hesitancy factor has gradually faded, people in large numbers are taking the jab. Authorities will have to ensure smooth functioning of the online/offline system so that people willing to take the vaccine do not face any inconvenience.

Airport staff vaccinated

Under the aegis of Adani Lucknow Airport Limited, employees and officers of Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport have been vaccinated against Covid-19. The drive was carried out in collaboration with CHC Sarojininagar as part of the vaccination campaign launched by the government.
