AGRA: Over 34,000 personnel of the Central Armed Paramilitary Forces (CAPF) will be deployed for the first phase of elections in Agra, Aligarh and Mathura on February 10.
The troop deployment, this time, is higher as compared to the previous elections. ADG (Agra zone), Rajeev Krishna, said the troops will be stationed at areas categorised as vulnerable and critical. He added, “The number of troops has been increased this time to ensure the smooth conduct of elections.”
Also, CCTV cameras will be installed and polling stations near Chambal ravines monitored through drones, saidthe ADG.
In the last 2017 assembly elections, 97 companies of CAPF were deployed in Agra. This year, the number is 129.
Around 93 companies were stationed in communally sensitive Aligarh in 2017 and this year, 14 additional companies have been provided, taking their number to 107. In Mathura, the number of companies has risen from 62 to 78.
Apart from paramilitary forces, additional police force will also be deployed in the region on the polling day. In Agra, 1,100 inspectors and sub-inspectors, 7,000 constables and head constables will be on duty.
In Aligarh, there will be 690 inspectors and sub-inspectors and 5,800 constables and head constables, while in Mathura, 590 inspectors and sub-inspectors and 4,100 constables and head constables will be deployed.
