33 rainbow trail pictures made by Liverpool children to cheer everyone up

Children from all over Liverpool, Wirral and the rest of the country have been creating rainbow pictures to spread joy as families are told to stay at home.

Last week, schools were ordered to close and only stay open to care for children of key workers and since then Prime Minister Boris Johnson has told everyone to stay in their homes, putting the UK on lockdown.

People will only be allowed out to go to work if they can't work at home, to go to the shop for essential supplies or to take some exercise.

Now children across the UK including Merseyside have been drawing, painting and crafting rainbow pictures to put up in their windows to cheer up other kids and their families as they walk past.

Get daily tips on how to survive lockdown with your family, from toddlers prone to temper tantrums, to teenagers struggling to adapt to the abrupt closure of schools and separation from their friends - we’ve got it covered. We’re with you. Sign up here.

Various Facebook groups have sprung up including the Rainbow Trail where families are sharing their creations to try and spread some support and love.

This week, parents have been left to take on the role of teachers as they navigate the new 'normal' of home schooling.

Lots of parents have embraced the extra family time and have been using the rainbow creating task as a good way to occupy their children.

We were inundated with your rainbow pictures which we've included in a gallery above. We couldn't include them all but you can see more here.
