A woman has been charged with murder after a child was found dead at a home in a small coastal town.
A 32-year-old woman has been charged with murder following the death of a child at a home in a Queensland coastal town.
Police launched a homicide investigation after a three-year-old girl was found unresponsive at the home at Moore Park Beach, north of Bundaberg in Queensland, about 4.45pm on Monday.
Queensland Police Chief Inspector Grant Marcus told reporters that multiple people reported the incident to police.
“I’m not exactly sure at this stage who rang the police, but certainly there were multiple calls coming in relation to what’s happened, and police are rushed out and unfortunately, have located this child deceased at the residence,” he said, per Nine News.
Marcus told reporters at the scene that the woman was assisting detectives with their inquiries.
“We’re trying now to process this whole scene to determine what on earth has happened here this evening,” Marcus said on Monday.
“This is a really tragic evening.”
Investigators quickly set up a crime scene and said there was no ongoing threat to the community.
The woman is due to appear in the Bundaberg Magistrates Court on Tuesday, May 27.
