March 21--Chicago police following up on a package containing more than a pound of marijuana that was intercepted recently confiscated more than 30 pounds of other drugs, including heroin and cocaine, five assault-style rifles and about $95,000 in cash.
Lauren Henry, 24, was arrested at a home in the 2200 block of South Kildare Avenue, where she lives, a little before 5 p.m. Thursday, police said. She faces felony heroin, cocaine and marijuana possession charges, as well as misdemeanor weapons charges, and was ordered held in lieu of $100,000 bail at a hearing Friday before Cook County Circuit Judge James Brown, according to prosecutors and court records.
Narcotics officers launched their investigation after a shipping facility received a suspicious package that turned out to contain 1.3 pounds of marijuana, and on Thursday brought a warrant to the Kildare address, where the package with the marijuana had been destined, according to police.
At the home, police found 14.8 pounds of tan heroin, 11.31 pounds of powder cocaine, 2.19 pounds of black-tar heroin, 1.23 pounds of crack cocaine and 1.6 pounds of marijuana, according to police. The drugs have a street value of about $1.5 million, according to police.
Officers also confiscated two rifles with 100-round magazines, three rifles with 30-round magazines, loaded 10 mm and 9 mm pistols, a revolver, a high-power bolt-action rifle with a scope, large amounts of ammunition and two bulletproof vests. Police also found about $95,608 in cash.
Henry is scheduled for another court hearing April 8.
