€300k worth of drugs labelled as make-up and toys seized by Revenue in Dublin

Drugs worth €297,000 were nabbed by Revenue officers in Dublin yesterday.

Revenue detector dogs Sam and Bailey assisted the operation which found 10kg worth of cannabis and 'hash cakes'.

30,400 Benzodiazepine tablets and 10,600 Zopiclone tablets were also seized, as well as smaller amounts of ecstasy and ephedrine tablets, butane honey oil, cannabis oil and synthetic cannabinoids.

The drugs were discovered in 40 parcels from two different premises in the capital.

The parcels were labelled as items such as ‘Easter toys’, ‘make-up’, ‘healthcare products’, ‘antique glassware’, ‘documents’, ‘gifts’, ‘sports equipment’, ‘dog accessories’ and ‘clothes’.

They were destined for different addresses around Ireland and they originated from the United States, Spain, France, Canada, India, Hungary, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom.

A Revenue spokeswoman said "investigations are ongoing" and reminded the public they can contact Revenue in confidence if they have information on smuggling.

She said: "These seizures are part of Revenue's ongoing operations targeting the importation of illegal drugs.

"If businesses or members of the public have any information regarding smuggling, they can contact Revenue in confidence on Confidential Phone Number 1800 295 295."
