£3000 of Class A drugs found after police stop car in Ayr

A 27-year-old man has been arrested after police stopped a car and found Class A drugs worth an estimated street value of £3000.

Community police were on patrol when they stopped a vehicle in Ayr's James Street on Friday.

They detained a 27-year-old male after a quantity of class A controlled drugs were allegedly found in the male's possession.

Following liaison with the Procurator Fiscal, a search warrant was obtained for the male’s house and £3000 in cash was seized from the house under Proceeds of Crime legislation.

Chief Inspector Brian Anderson, Area Commander at South Ayrshire, said “Drug misuse and the supply of controlled drugs in particular remains a priority for us. We are aware of ongoing concerns regarding drug dealing activity in Ayr North and we are carrying out work to tackle this. Uniformed and plain clothes officers patrol this area on a daily basis to gather intelligence and carry out enforcement activity.”

“This seizure came about through proactive patrols and has taken a dealer quantity of alleged controlled drugs off the street."

“Across South Ayrshire local officers will continue to target those involved in drug dealing and I would encourage the public to report concerns they may have to the police on 101 or via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”

The man is expected to appear in court next week.
