30 second review: UB40 featuring Ali Campbell and Astro at Aintree Racecourse

They certainly got us, babe.

The distinctive sound of Ali Campbell’s voice ringing out across Aintree Racecourse is something to behold.

UB40, featuring original members Ali Campbell and Astro, took to the open air stage tonight to an adoring audience, who left more captivated than ever.

The soft reggae notes took me back to waking up on Sunday morning and hearing my mother trying to keep in tune with Red Red Wine.

The lively concert, which included the band’s timeless classics Falling in Love With You, Kingston Town and Red Red Wine, made for an incredible atmosphere and an unforgettable evening.

With each beloved hit, the audience was drawn in and I began to wonder just what we’d do once it was over.

First song

(Liverpool Echo)

After the cheering and clapping had died down, Ali Campbell, Astro and the many incredible musicians they'd brought with them performed the much-loved 'If It Happens Again'.

Did they mention Liverpool?

After their first song, Astro took the time to speak with the crowd; he said: "So good to be back at Aintree, especially for our 40th anniversary."

Then, as they closed the show, Astro told the crowd: "Thanks for coming, thanks for dancing - I hope you've enjoyed yourself as much as we've enjoyed doing it.

"We'll have to come back and do it all again".

Best moment

(Liverpool Echo)

The atmosphere when the chords to (I can't help) Falling in Love With You was magical.

The crowd knew just what was coming and were at one with the band.

Last song

They kept us waiting until the very end - but it was definitely worth it.

The atmosphere when the chords to Red Red Wine began was like no other.

It was what each and every one of us had been waiting for all night.

Unforgettable.
