30 most important Seahawks in 2019: No. 25, guard D.J. Fluker

For the final 30 days leading up to the start of Seattle Seahawks training camp, we will be counting down the 30 most important players on the roster heading into the 2019 season.

One of the most colorful personalities on this Seahawks squad is also one of the biggest; 340 pound right guard D.J. Fluker. Fluker is more than just a goofy guy however, as his menacing style on the field was a monstrous factor in the Seahawks improvement in the run-game last year.

Behind Fluker and veteran J.R. Sweezy, Seattle’s running backs were able to run through dump-truck sized holes all of last year, even when opposing teams knew they were running the ball.

Fluker was hampered by some injury issues down the stretch last year, and while rookie Jordan Simmons filled in admirably, it is very clear how important Fluker’s punishing blocking style is to this team.

Fluker does leave something to be desired as a pass-blocker, but if this team plans to commit to a run-heavy offensive attack, Fluker is just the guy they want leading the charge up front. With veteran’s Duane Brown, Mike Iupati and Justin Britt in the mix as well, it’s easy to see why Brown believes this offensive line could be one of the best in the league.

Fluker’s presence will be a big part of that heading into the 2019 season.
