30 most important Seahawks in 2019: No. 24, WR Jaron Brown

For the final 30 days leading up to the start of Seattle Seahawks training camp, we will be counting down the 30 most important players on the roster heading into the 2019 season.

The Seahawks prioritized the wide receiver position during the 2019 NFL draft, selecting three different receivers while also adding a pair of undrafted free agents.

Those new receivers will join a group that lost Doug Baldwin to retirement but still retains Tyler Lockett and David Moore, two excellent performers from last season.

With all the new faces it’s easy to forget about the veteran of the group, Jaron Brown. Brown signed with Seattle last season to little fanfare. He didn’t see much action during the regular season, only getting targeted 19 times.

However, he hauled in 14 of those while totaling 166 yards and five touchdowns, hyper-efficient numbers that lead both offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer and coach Pete Carroll to praise his performance, while wishing they had used him more.

“He did so much of the dirty work for us last year that we kind of forgot that he’s a really established receiver and he’s looked dynamic out here,” Schottenheimer commented during minicamp.

“Jaron Brown is a really good player that we look back and we could’ve used him a lot more,” Carroll said back in March, before the draft.

Lockett, Moore and rookie DK Metcalf are all locked into big roles in the Seattle offense next season. The Seahawks will likely carry five receivers though, and the way the coaches are talking about Brown he seems like a good bet to not only make the team, but to have an increased role in the offense.

With no Baldwin and a very young group of receivers, Brown will have a crucial role not only on the field next year, but as a mentor and teacher to the young group.

That will make him a key piece for the Seahawks in 2019.
