30 most important Seahawks in 2019: No. 23, FS Tedric Thompson

For the final 30 days leading up to the start of Seattle Seahawks training camp, we will be counting down the 30 most important players on the roster heading into the 2019 season.

Earl Thomas’ final season in Seattle didn’t quite go as planned. After only four games, Thomas went down with a season-ending leg injury, effectively ending his tenure in the Emerald City.

With Thomas gone, the Seahawks will begin the 2019 season with a new starting free safety – and the most likely candidate is the man who replaced Thomas down the stretch, Tedric Thompson.

Thompson racked up 41 solo tackles with three passes defended, one interception and one forced fumble in 14 games last season.

The Seahawks did bring in two rookie safeties – Marquise Blair and Ugo Amadi – who will compete with Thompson and fellow third-year safety Lano Hill to start alongside veteran Bradley McDougald next year.

Thompson will have to prove he’s earned the starting job during training camp, but his consistency and experience as a starter definitely make him the candidate to beat at what will be an important spot in Pete Carroll’s cover-3 defensive scheme.
