30 most important Seahawks in 2019: No. 18, punter Michael Dickson

For the final 30 days leading up to the start of Seattle Seahawks training camp, we will be counting down the 30 most important players on the roster heading into the 2019 season.

Michael Dickson was one of the hardest players to rank. An All-Pro and Pro Bowler his rookie season, he certainly needs to be on this list. Flipping the field is a crucial element of Seattle’s defensive strategy, and when their run-heavy offense falls flat it’s nice to have the insurance that they can pin the opposing team in poor field position – regardless of where they are on the field.

Dickson was selected in the fifth round of the 2018 NFL draft. The team traded up with the Broncos to select him, which incited a lot of reaction around the league.

Dickson ended up taking the punting job from veteran Jon Ryan during training camp, and he ended up punting 78 times for 3,759 yards during the regular season, an average of 48.2 yards per punt.

Dickson is already among the best in the league at his position, and as he continues to grow and develop he has a chance to be the best in the league, and possibly one of the best of all-time.

It’s not the sexiest position on the field, and seeing the punter is almost never a good thing, but Dickson’s ability to flip the field will once again be crucial for the Seahawks in 2019.
