30 most important Seahawks in 2019: No. 12, DT Poona Ford

For the final 30 days leading up to the start of Seattle Seahawks training camp, we will be counting down the 30 most important players on the roster heading into the 2019 season.

Seahawks defensive tackle Poona Ford became the latest in a long line of undrafted free agents who have found success in Seattle.

Ford went undrafted despite an excellent career at the University of Texas, primarily thanks to his height (five-foot-eleven) which many felt would limit him in the NFL.

That didn’t end up being the case at all, as Ford went on to post a 90.3 overall grade from Pro Football Focus last season, one of the best marks in the entire league.

Now entering his crucial second season, Ford is expected to hold down a starting spot on the defensive interior alongside breakout star Jarran Reed.

Reed has developed into an excellent pass rusher, which pairs well with Ford and his ability to stuff the running lanes, close gaps and force runners outside where they are often met for a loss.

For the Seahawks to succeed at stopping the run next season, Ford will have to prove that his rookie season was not a fluke. If he can do that, they should have a quietly excellent defensive front for the 2019 campaign.
