30 most important Seahawks in 2019: No. 1, QB Russell Wilson

For the final 30 days leading up to the start of Seattle Seahawks training camp, we will be counting down the 30 most important players on the roster heading into the 2019 season.

No surprises here, but Seattle’s most important figure going into this season is their quarterback, Russell Wilson.

Wilson, 30, is coming off one of the finest seasons of his career. Even though Brian Schottenheimer’s offense heavily favored the running game, Wilson threw for a career-high 35 touchdowns while posting a 110.9 passer rating, all while leading the Seahawks to a 10-6 record and another playoff berth.

That led to him signing what was the biggest quarterback contract in NFL history, a four-year, $140 million deal to keep him in Seattle through 2023.

Now, Wilson will have to prove that he can continue to thrive in a run-dominated environment after losing his longtime go-to target, slot receiver Doug Baldwin, to retirement.

The Seahawks have an extremely young receiving corps led by Tyler Lockett, second-year receiver David Moore and a handful of rookies.

Wilson will need to carry this offense and this ragtag group of receivers this season if the Seahawks want to make their eighth trip to the playoffs in the Pete Carroll era.
