In April 2020, Savills were appointed as fixed charge receivers of the property, which underwent an extensive refurbishment during the first coronavirus lockdown.

The hotel is themed around the White Star Line shipping company which once occupied the historic building.

It also boasts of events space, spa facilities and an outdoor terrace with stunning views of Liverpool's famous waterfront.

The building was designed by celebrated Victorian architect Norman Shaw, who also designed New Scotland Yard in London, and was completed in 1896.

Tom Cunningham, hotels director at Savills Manchester, said: “This sale offers a rare chance to acquire a prime city centre hotel and historic landmark, in one of the UK’s most popular destinations.

"The history of the building, the quality of its provisions and the standout location have together created a fantastic opportunity for potential investors and we expect to see good levels of interest.”
