SONGKHLA: Thirty racers, most of them teenagers, were rounded up and 32 motorcycles seized by police while illegally racing on Rat Uthit road through the heart of Hat Yai city early on Sunday, police said.

The police launched the operation on receiving complaints from local residents that Rat Uthit road through the Hat Yai Municipality had been turned into a racetrack by illegal racers between 4am and 6am from Friday to Sunday, obstructing normal traffic and making disturbingly loud noise.

In the operation, the police trapped the racers by blocking both ends of the road. Thirty illegal racers, 22 men and 8 women, most of them in their teens, were arrested and 32 motorcycles seized.
