The number of countries placing tough restrictions on UK travellers entering their borders is growing as the number of cases of the new omicron variant continues to soar.
Yesterday, Tuesday 21 December, Scotland recorded 5,242 new cases of COVID-19, while the UK reported 90,629 in total.
As a result, many popular winter sun destinations have banned tourists from the UK in a bid to reduce the risk of spreading the virus - including France and Germany, with Spain expected to soon follow suit.
In total now there are 30 different countries with tough restrictions in place for UK travellers, as reported by the Mirror.
Germany
New rules introduced on Sunday evening in Germany classify the UK as a virus variant area of concern, the highest Covid risk level that the country has.
The decision was taken on Saturday when the UK once again broke its daily case record.
Travellers to Germany from the UK will now have to prove a negative test and quarantine for two weeks, regardless of vaccination status.
India
India also recently introduced new restrictions for UK travellers, including a test on arrival at Indian airports, followed by seven days of home quarantine.
You must then take a day eight test, before self-monitoring your health for another seven days, going back into quarantine if necessary.
China
China has been one of the countries with the strictest Covid rules, with officials desperate to avoid any spikes in infections.
A ban remains on foreign travellers, including those from the UK.
France
France introduced new restrictions against UK travellers on Friday December 17.
Under the new rules there will be a requirement for an 'essential' reason to travel to France from the UK.
The French government clarified this in a statement saying "people cannot travel for touristic or professional reasons."

As well as those listed above, all of the following nations and territories have effectively banned UK tourists from entering:
- Australia
