What’s the difference between no and low alcohol?
The current UK government guidelines states that drinks which contain 0.05% ABV or less are labelled as alcohol free. Drinks over and up to 1.2% are labelled as low alcohol.
How are non-alcoholic spirits made?
The process of making no and low alcoholic spirits is very similar to making the alcoholic version - which is why some come with a similar price tag.
Non-alcoholic spirits are made from a small combination of neutral spirits and botanicals - which give the spirit its floral, fruity or bittersweet flavour. These are then heated through multiple rounds of distillation.
This process, which can take up to six weeks to complete, help extract the flavour of the ingredients before the alcohol is removed from the liquid - and ta dah! You have your delicious non-alcoholic drink, ready to enjoy.
