3 yellow weather warnings for Nottinghamshire as forecasters warn of flooding

The Met Office has issued yellow weather warnings for rain across the region over three days next week.

From 12midnight on Monday (January 18) until 12noon on Thursday (January 21) forecasters are predicting "spells of prolonged and heavy rain" that could potentially lead to flooding and disruption across Nottinghamshire and a large part of the country.

The national weather service reports homes and businesses could be flooded.

In addition, fast flowing or deep floodwater is possible which could cause danger to life.

The heavy rainfall could also affect travel on roads and trainlines, with some communities potentially cut off if roads are not accessible.

There is also the possibility of power cuts for homes and businesses.

In Nottinghamshire, Monday is set to be a slightly cloudy day with some rain and winds in the afternoon, and a maximum temperature 7 °C.

The Met Office says the weather becomes much more unsettled between Tuesday and Thursday.

Although mild in temperature, rain is set to dominate most of the midweek and getting colder towards Thursday, when there is potentially for snow in higher areas.

A statement from the Met Office on the yellow warning reads: "Several days of persistent and occasional heavy rain are expected to affect the region.

"The heaviest and most persistent rain is likely to be across Wales and the high ground of northern England (Pennines).

"By early Thursday, 30-60 mm of rain is expected to fall widely across the warning area, with 100-150 mm over the high ground of Wales and northern England.

"Up to 200 mm is possible across parts of north Wales. Melting snow across higher parts of the Pennines may exacerbate the potential for flooding.

"Strong winds will also accompany the rainfall and may add to travelling difficulties across areas higher and more exposed routes."
