KANSAS CITY, Mo. _ Three-year-old Jermone L. Green, who died last week inside a Kansas City townhouse, was accidentally shot by his 5-year-old brother, Kansas City police confirmed on Monday.
The shooting happened Thursday morning. Paramedics arrived and tried to revive Jermone but were unsuccessful.
Investigators are trying to determine how the 5-year-old got possession of the firearm. Several adults were inside the residence when the shooting occurred, police said.
The case has been forwarded to the Jackson County Prosecutor's Office, which will determine whether criminal charges will be filed.
On Saturday, relatives set up a GoFundMe page to help with funeral expenses.
In their posting, relatives said the shooting "was a tragic accident."
Neighbors said the family had moved into the townhouse about a month ago.
