April 23--At least eight people have been wounded since Friday afternoon in separate shootings on the West and South sides, officials said.
Most recently, a 29-year-old man was shot during a fight outside a bar about 1:54 a.m. Saturday in the West Town neighborhood, said Officer Ron Gaines, a Chicago police spokesman.
The man was fighting with someone outside a bar on the corner of Grand Avenue and Wood Street when an unknown attacker fired shots, striking him in the neck, Gaines said.
The man was taken in serious condition to Stroger Hospital, Gaines said.
At the scene of the shooting, police officers cordoned off about a half a block of Wood Street north of Grand Avenue with red crime tape.
Officers walked in and out of Output Bar Grill on the northeastern corner of the intersection.
A man, who stood outside the crime scene, said his cousin was the man who was shot. He said his cousin was in the area for a birthday party when the shooting happened.
Earlier, about 1:17 a.m., a 23-year-old man was wounded in a shooting in the West Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side, Gaines said.
The man was on the sidewalk in the 200 block of North Keeler Avenue when an unknown attacker approached him and fired shots, Gaines said.
He was struck in the leg and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was listed in good condition, Gaines said.
Around the same time, at 1:14 a.m., a 22-year-old man walked into St. Anthony Hospital with a gunshot wound to the chest, Gaines said.
The man was exiting a store in the 3200 block West 16th Street in the Lawndale neighborhood when a vehicle pulled up and an unknown male attacker inside it fired shots, Gaines said.
The man managed to make it to the St. Anthony. He was later transferred to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition, Gaines said.
About 12:55 a.m., a 20-year-old man was wounded in a shooting in the East Chatham neighborhood on the Far South Side, Gaines said.
The man was walking on the street in the 800 block of East 82nd Street when an unknown male attacker exited a vehicle and fired shots, Gaines said.
The man was shot in the left armpit and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where he was listed in serious condition, Gaines said.
A 41-year-old man was wounded about 6:26 p.m. Friday in the 7800 block of South Lafayette Avenue in the city's West Chatham neighborhood, said Officer Michelle Tannehill, a Chicago police spokeswoman.
A 41-year-old man walked into the emergency room of St. Bernard Hospital with a gunshot wound to the right leg. He told police he had been shot at the Lafayette location.
About 1:58 p.m., another person was wounded in the 1200 block of South Kedzie Avenue in the city's Lawndale neighborhood, police said.
According to preliminary reports, a 26-year-old man drove himself to Mount Sinai Hospital after he was shot in the chest and left leg. He was listed in good condition at the hospital, police said.
Two people were wounded in accidental shootings, police said
Most recently, a 20-year-old man shot himself in the hand about 11 p.m. in the Lawndale neighborhood on the West Side, Gaines said.
The man was in the 3100 block of West Douglas Boulevard when he shot himself. He was taken to Mount Sinai hospital, where he was listed in good condition, Gaines said.
About 1:05 p.m., a 17-year-old boy was wounded in an accidental shooting in the city's South Shore neighborhood.
A gun accidentally discharged in the 6900 block of South Paxton Avenue, striking a boy in the left foot, Tannehill said.
The boy, who was taken to Jackson Park Hospital, was listed in good condition.
Police believe the wound was self inflicted.
No one was in custody as a result of the shootings.
