BHOPAL: Three women have been arrested by the Narcotics Bureau with heroin worth nearly Rs 20 crore that was smuggled from Thailand to Bengaluru and was being carried to Delhi.
The women were intercepted following leads from the interrogation of one of their alleged associates in Delhi, say sources. The trio is now being questioned in Indore.
Officials say the heroin consignment was flown to Bengaluru on an international airline. The three women, who are from Mizoram, acted as couriers and were apparently headed for Delhi when someone called them and told them to get off at Itarsi, around 100km from Bhopal, say sources. They were arrested from a hotel at Chikmagalur square in Itarsi on Thursday.
Hoshangabad SP Gurkaran Singh had told local media that NCB has seized narcotics worth 'Rs 100 crore' from those arrested. This drug bust is the result of strong surveillance and intel gathering by NCB on international drug networks, especially those with links to Afghanistan and Nigerian syndicates, said officials. Indian investigators are coordinating with foreign agencies to identify others in the drug syndicate.
