The Philadelphia Eagles are making moves with their offensive line depth, as Adam Schefter is reporting that the team is set to sign former Army offensive tackle Brett Toth to a three-year deal.
Toth had been seeking approval to sign with the NFC East favorites after Donald Trump Toth put in place a special waiver that would allow military academy athletes to get clearance to join pro sports teams upon graduation, rather than fulfill an obligation for active duty. Air Force long snapper Austin Cutting became the first military graduate to sign with a team when he inked a deal with the Minnesota Vikings.
With Toth now headed to Philadelphia, here are three things to know about the gigantic tackle:
1. Toth is a second lieutenant in the Army
Toth graduated as a nuclear engineer in May 2018 and has actually already fulfilled his first year of active military service.
2. Toth is a big fella
Standing at 6′ 6″ and 291 lbs, the massive offensive tackle has 33 3/8” arms, while his hands measure out at 10 1/4”. While at the NFL Combine, he graded out like an NFL backup OR special teams contributor.
3. Toth will need time to develop
Toth is an athletic guard/tackle prospect who will likely need a season to learn the Eagles offense and also add mass and work on his fundamentals in pass protection. The Eagles view Toth as a potential practice squad project.
