The Philadelphia Eagles are making moves on this Wednesday afternoon, promoting Press Taylor to the passing game coordinator while adding to new offensive assistants to the staff who bring years of innovative experience.
The Eagles have reportedly hired former Broncos offensive coordinator Rich Scangarello and Andrew Breiner as well.
Here are three things to know about Scangarello and his deep offensive background:
***
1. Scangarello has a background with Kyle Shanahan, which should excite some Eagles fans looking for further offensive innovation. Scangarello excels in the run game with pre-snap motion and misdirection that Shanahan’s 49ers team performs so well.
2. Scangarello has moved around some, having previously worked as an assistant coach for the Oakland Raiders, Atlanta Falcons and San Francisco 49ers. His longest stint as a coach was in the college ranks when he spent four years UC Davis as their wide receiver/co-offensive coordinator.
3. Scangarello on the staff allows Doug Pederson the ability to divvy up the responsibilities on offense, allowing for more coaching that benefits Carson Wentz. Scangarello is likely the guy experts were referring to when the call was made for Doug Pederson to find more resources for the development of franchise quarterback Carson Wentz.
Scangarell played a key role in the maturation of rookie Drew Lock, who now looks like the Broncos signal-caller of the future.
