The Philadelphia Eagles addressed their pass rush roes, striking a pre-trade deadline deal with the Cleveland Browns for a talented edge rusher and defensive end, Genard Avery.
Avery was drafted by the Browns in the fifth round (150th overall) of the 2018 NFL Draft. With Howie Roseman and the Eagles not likely to be finished dealing, here are three things for Eagles fans to know about the teams’ new pass rusher extraordinaire.

1. Avery can carry a ton of weight:
A Grenada High School product and Mississipi native, Avery won a state powerlifting title in the 242-pound division at the Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 6A Powerlifting Meet as a senior in 2014. Then a Memphis signee, Avery set three new state records and secured back to back state titles.
2. Avery has a motor:
As a rookie, Avery amassed 4.5 sacks in limited playing time. According to Pro Football Focus, as a rookie, Avery was second on the team in hurries with 29 and second in pressures with 42.
3. Avery can be a Trent Cole clone?
A former Eagles great, Cole finished his NFL career with 90 sacks and 456 tackles. Avery is fast, can create pressure from anywhere and provides the Eagles with the versatile pass rusher that they’ve lacked. The addition of Avery gives the Eagles seven defensive ends on the active roster, and a nice second half of the season could provide him with a permanent home.
