The Philadelphia Eagles announced a couple of roster moves on Thursday, promoting Robert Davis to the active roster, after placing Alshon Jeffery on Injured reserve.
With only two healthy receivers on the roster, Davis will get his chance to make a late-season name for himself.
Here are three things to know about the speedy wideout.
***
1. Davis has been productive
The former Georgia State wideout finished his collegiate career with 222 catches for 3,391 yards and 17 touchdowns in four seasons on 15.3 yards-per-catch. The 2017 sixth-round pick played in three games earlier this season for the Washington Redskins.
Davis’ older cousin is linebacker Thomas Davis, formerly of the Carolina Panthers.
2. Davis has the size of Jeffery but more speed
Davis got the promotion mainly because he’s the player on the practice squad the most resembles Jeffery in stature. At 6 foot 3, Davis is tall but can run, posting a 4.44-second 40-yard dash, placing him 10th at the 2017 NFL Combine.
3. Davis should be familiar with the Redskins scheme
The former Redskins receiver could have stuck with the franchise, but he suffered a broken tibia and a torn LCL during training camp, keeping him out the entire 2018 season. Davis seems to be finally healthy for the first time in two years and should have a productive three-game audition with the Eagles after learning their offense this season.
