The Philadelphia Eagles added more depth to the 53 man roster after the team promoted Deontay Burnett to the active roster.
Only 22 years of age, the Eagles are his fourth NFL team, but the former USC star boasts a ton of potential and ability.
With Burnett set to make his debut with the Eagles, here are 3 things to know about the smooth wideout.
***
1. Burnett committed to USC as a Blueshirt signee
Burnett originally committed to Washington State, but de-committed and since Burnett did not have an official visit or an arranged in-home visit, he was eligible for the advance scholarship.
The Trojans were able to bring him on as a scholarship player after the first day of fall camp, making him eligible to play in 2015, but his scholarship didn’t count until the 2016 recruiting cycle.
2. Burnett has flashed star power
In his sophomore season at USC in 2016, Burnett became one of the top-three targets for the Trojans, appearing in all 13 games, starting the last 5 as the slot receiver, and finishing the year with 56 receptions for 622 yards with 7 touchdowns. His breakout performance came in the 2017 Rose Bowl Game, where he caught 13 passes for 164 yards and 3 touchdowns. He was named to the 2016 AP All-Bowl Team first team, ESPN All-Bowl Team first team, and ESPN Pac-12 All-Bowl Team first team.
3. Burnett has shined in limited action as a pro.
Last season, Burnett had games where he shined, catching 4 balls for 61 yards against the Bears and then logging a 5 catch for 73-yard performance against New England.
In preseason action against the Eagles, Burnett had three receptions for 40 yards. With Nelson Agholor likely to move on, Burnett could backup Greg Ward at the slot receiver spot next season.
