3 things to know about Colts new DT Robert Windsor

The Indianapolis Colts snagged Penn State defensive tackle Robert Windsor with the No. 193 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

This big, strong defensive lineman out of Penn State adds an interesting combination of size and speed to a defensive line that has been reformed and upgraded this offseason.

Here are three things to know about the newest addition to the Colts, Rob Windsor.

1. Had an impressive senior season

Windsor took awhile to break into a starting role for the Nittany Lions, but once he did he made his presence known. His senior season, he finished with 40 total tackles and had 3.5 sacks. He was named to the All-Big Ten third team by the coaches. He is a strong and aggressive player in the trenches.

Windsor has a high motor and solid length to work at the three-technique defensive tackle position. Since becoming a starter over the last two seasons with Penn State, he recorded 16.0 tackles for loss and 10.5 sacks.

2. Highly recruited by Big Ten schools

Before committing to Penn State in January of 2015, Windsor had many other Big Ten offers to choose from. Among the schools who extended scholarship offers were Wisconsin, Illinois, Minnesota, Maryland and Purdue. A native of Fond Du Loc, Wisconsin, Windsor redshirted at Penn State in 2015.

Windsor was a three-star defensive tackle recruit out of high school and finished as the No. 3 recruit in Wisconsin entering college. He graduated with a degree in telecommunications and was a participant in the Senior Bowl.

3. Maintains health by not drinking alcohol

Entering his senior season, Windsor decided to take care of his body and cut alcohol from his diet. He noted that it was difficult to give up especially on a college campus, but knew if he wanted to be great he had to take great care of his body. “I ask myself, ‘Is this going to help me be the best?’ And if it’s not, then I don’t do it,” he told reporters in August of 2019. “So it’s just kind of a discipline thing.”

Windsor stands at 6-foot-4 and 290 pounds with 33.18-inch arms. He’s explosive off the ball and brings a high motor to the defense. It is likely that Windsor will be competing with Tyquan Lewis for the final defensive tackle spot in the room.
