Celtic weathered choppy waters on the banks of the Danube at times, but goals from all three forwards secured a 3-2 Europa League win at Ferencvaros and guaranteed continental football post-Christmas.
On a rollercoaster evening Ange Postecoglou 's side took an early lead through talisman Kyogo Furuhashi, only to be pegged back by an unlucky deflection.
An end-to-end first period saw the Premiership runners-up go into the break ahead thanks to a deflected strike of their own by Jota.
And the visitors kept their boot on the throat of their Hungarian opponents in the second period as they established their dominance and added a third through Liel Abada.
There was still drama to come though as Ferencvaros got a stunning late second to set up a grandstand finish which Postecoglou's men ultimately survived.
The result means Celtic are guaranteed at least third place in the group and a place in the Europa Conference League at the least.
Postecoglou made three changes to the side that drew with Livingston, with Kyogo returning to lead the line and Stephen Welsh in for Carl Starfelt.
The hosts boasted former Hibs goalkeeper Adam Bogdan in goal, with the players greeted by an enormous depiction of a wizard by the Ferencvaros ultras, who urged their side to "keep the flame alive" while also displaying a number of anti-left wing images.
It was certainly a fiery atmosphere generated by the 'Green Monsters' as their side shot into their end in the first 45 minutes.
Celtic were caught out by an early long ball in behind and were relieved to see Tokmac Nguen fluff his shot from the edge of the box.
And the visitors poured cold water on things as they went right up the other end and scored.
Jota pressed well to win it back and fed Liel Abada, who surged into position down the right.
He cut it back for Kyogo who dropped a shoulder, turned away from his man and, sporting a brand new blonde mop, fired it home.
The returning Welsh had a shaky start to the game, recovering after a potentially disastrous slip and receiving a booking for catching Oleksandr Zubkov.
The Ukrainian midfielder was involved once again with 11 minutes played as he grabbed a fortuitous equaliser.
Abada played Turnbull into trouble in his own final third, allowing the Hungarian champions to win the ball back.
It was worked out to Zubkov on the right, who took on Josip Juranovic and saw his shot loop off the sliding defender and nestle in Joe Hart's far corner.
It was a frantic game with both sides going all-out and Celtic got a deflection of their own to re-take the lead.
Hart made a smart stop at one end and immediately the visitors were haring up to the other.
The ball found its way to Jota on the right wing and the on-loan Benfica man only ever had one thing in mind.
The Portuguese cut in and shot, and his strike got a slight deflection which deceived Bogdan and sent the ball in off the post.
It was like basketball at times with both teams taking their turn to attack, Turnbull volleying over after Hart had again been called into action.
The former Motherwell man extended Bogdan just before half-time but had another scare when Zubkov was played in behind, only for Juranovic to use his recovery pace to get across and buy a foul.
The end-to-end action continued after the break as Tokmac rattled one off the bar with Hart beaten all ends up.
Minutes later Anthony Ralston gave the woodwork of the other goal a pounding as his header came off the bar from a David Turnbull set piece.
The midfielder turned provider again as he sent a stunning ball through for Kyogo but the forward saw his dinked finish scrambled off the line by Miha Blazic.
That was the latest sign that the chaos of the first half had given way to Celtic domination and they killed the game just before the hour mark with a team goal that summed up this side at its best.
The all-action Turnbull tracked back to win it in midfield before slipping it inside to McGregor, who worked it to Kyogo on the edge of the box.
After a quick touch the Japanese international sent a perfectly weighted reverse ball through for Abada, who curled it past Bogdan on his left foot.
All that Postecoglou would have been hoping for as the minutes ticked away was to get out of dodge without any casualties but yet more injuries reared their heads.
Bitton went down holding his knee with just over 10 minutes remaining and couldn't continue, James McCarthur replacing him in the engine room.
The Israeli could be an emergency centre-back option with Starfelt out and Christopher Jullien still working his way back, and hearts were in mouths as Welsh also appeared to be suffering from an injury.
Liam Scales was stripped and ready to replace him and though the centre-back indicated he could continue he was ultimately replaced.
It wouldn't be this Celtic team without a rollercoaster of emotions, and the hosts pulled one back with four to play.
Substitute Mikey Johnston fell over his own feet to give the ball away Myrto Uzuni curled one past Hart from the edge of the box.
Celtic held on though, and while scoring eight and conceding 10 in four group matches has indubitably aged some of their supporters, those frazzled fans will be watching their side in Europe into 2022.

Jota stakes his claim
It would cost Celtic around £6.5m to buy Jota outright from Benfica in the summer but on this form even that fee looks like a no-brainer.
The Portuguese was a constant thorn in the side of the Ferencvaros defence, repeatedly beating his man and playing some intelligent passes.
His goal may have ultimately come with the aid of a deflection but the purpose he showed as soon as he picked the ball up out wide meant any fortune was deserved.
Still only 22, Celtic could be confident of earning far more than their outlay for Jota in short order if they do make his move permanent in the summer.
Never a dull moment
The first half in Budapest was, quite frankly, just silly.
Two sides determined to play on the front foot and not remotely concerned about defending traded blows in an entertaining, if bonkers, 45 minutes.
One suspects that the second half is more what Postecoglou wants to see from his team - attacking football but with a degree of control over the game.
Aside from an early shot off the crossbar Ferencvaros were outplayed in the second half to guarantee Celtic a place in Europe after Christmas.
Questions remain over playing such an all-out attack style against better opposition but it's never boring and, at least in the second half, the Hoops were worthy winners.
They made sure to keep the fans on edge though, Uzuni scoring late on when the game looked long dead to galvanise the hosts and their fans.
Hot on the pressing
One of the most impressive aspects of Celtic's performance was the way in which they pressed when the ball was lost.
The irrepressible David Turnbull summed up the sheer work rate of his side, forever hassling and harrying the Ferencvaros players.
It was fitting that the third and killer goal came about by the midfielder's Stakhanovite running, but he was far from the only one who ran himself into the ground.
Whatever the concerns about the defence, it's clear that this Celtic team has bought in to Postecoglou as they ran their socks off to a man.
