Ange Postecoglou's reign as Celtic boss got off to a winning start after pre-season friendly victory over Sheffield Wednesday in Wales.
The former Australia manager saw his side recover from conceding an early goal to Rangers old boy Josh Windass to run out comfortable winners.
Albian Ajeti started as captain and grabbed the leveller before youngster Owen Moffat took his big chance with a goal and Odsonne Edouard completed the scoring late on at Newport's Dragon Park.
Postecoglou gave plenty of players a runout in a match that was played over three half hour periods in south Wales.
It was a starting XI of some second chances with Ajeti handed the captain’s armband and Vasilis Barkas between the sticks.
And a clutch of youngsters were also given a chance to impress their new boss and show they can make the step up and be part of a new chapter for the club.
But they got off to the worst possible start as a familiar face fired the Owls into a third minute lead with Windass grabbing the early opener.
It was good build up play involving Hoops-daft Barry Bannan and Scotland full back Liam Palmer as they capitalised on poor defending.
The English side pinned Celtic back for the majority of the opening third and Postecoglou’s men looked like a team with little preparation.
Celtic grew stronger and debut Bhoy Liam Shaw was denied a penalty shout against his old club after he went down in the box.
Fellow debutant Owen Moffat was looking quite lively down the right and the youngster fired into the side netting with a decent effort.
Celtic were much brighter in the second third and as slowly as they started the first period, they rapidly started the second and were level inside 44 seconds of the restart.
Shaw did well to win the ball and fed Ewan Henderson who picked out Ajeti and he fired low into the net for the equaliser.
Celtic then took the lead towards the end of the second period and it was great play as he let the ball roll across him before a sending a shot high into the net.
Postecoglou made 10 changes for the final half hour with last season’s top scorer Odsonne Edouard introduced for Ajeti in attack.
And the Frenchman, linked with an exit this summer, completed the scoring when he latched on to a throughball and slipped a low shot into the net.
Here’s three talking points from South Wales
Mighty Moffat
A host of youngsters were given their chance to shine but it was Owen Moffat grabbed his big opportunity with both hands.
The midfielder was a handful with his tricky play down the right and capped a brilliant performance with an excellent goal.
Flame-haired Moffat was full of running and energy and was a real positive for Ange Postecoglou as he showed he could play a part in his plans.
The 19-year-old was brave and looking to get on the ball at every chance and was really productive for the Hoops.
Moffat has been at the club since the age of eight and signed a contract until 2024 at the start of this year and looks like he’ll have plenty to offer during that time.
Pre-season patience but Champions League clock ticking
There is often an overreaction from fans during pre-season who can have their team as world beaters or title no-hopers based on friendlies.
But Ange Postecoglou is going to need time and even within this game alone it was easy to see improvement.
Celtic started very slowly and social media and fans forums were probably going into meltdown as they were pinned back by an English League One side.
But there was much more to be positive about as the game wore on and the Hoops found their feet and Postecoglou got his ideas across.
However, while patience is needed that has to be balanced with the fact there is a huge Champions League qualifier against Midtjylland in a couple of weeks.
And while there were plenty of signs of optimism here they will have to step it up dramatically before the showdown with the Danes.
Second chance to impress
While emerging youngsters were handed their chance, it was also a chance for others who were already at the club to grasp their opportunity.
There were high hopes for Albian Ajeti when he signed for relatively big money from West Ham United last summer and despite a flying start to his Parkhead career he failed to live up to his reputation.
But the Swiss international was handed the armband to start here and he showed his nose for goal with the leveller.
Vasilis Barkas was another who flopped in his maiden campaign in Scotland and the Greek was solid enough, if not seriously tested, before he was replaced by Scott Bain.
In fairness to Ismaila Soro he was someone who fans felt deserved more of a chance after impressing when he did play and the Ivorian looked the part here with former midfielder Joe Ledley raving during Celtic TV commentary about his display.
