Kamu Grugier-Hill was having an amazing 2019 training camp and was in line to start at outside linebacker alongside Nigel Bradham. Now Grugier Hill is likely to miss upwards of two months according to Mike Garafolo, who is reporting that the linebacker suffered a grade 3 MCL sprain.
Doug Pederson had previously praised Grugier-Hill for the outstanding training camp he was having. Now Zach Brown and rookie T.J. Edwards will have to step up.
With Grugier-Hill going down, here are three takeaways of his injury:
1. Grugier-Hill could be out for 2 months
Grade 3 MCL Sprain entails: “Considerable pain and tenderness at the inside of the knee; some swelling and marked joint instability. The knee opens up about 1 centimeter (slightly less than half an inch) when the doctor moves your leg around. A grade 3 MCL tear often occurs along with a tear of the anterior cruciate ligament.”
2. Zach Brown must step up
Signed after the Redskins released him, Brown had Eagles nation in an uproar with fans excited about his tackling prowess and side to side exploits. Brown has had what some deem a non-impressive training camp, getting third-team reps and he was in danger of not starting and losing his spot in the rotation to Grugier-Hill. Brown now has the opportunity to salvage his training camp and re-establish himself as a premier linebacker on the roster.
3. Young Linebackers can make a name for themselves
L.J. Fort was signed during free agency but has been quiet thus far. That could change. Nathan Gerry, a former fifth-round pick, has gotten first-team reps and should see his production increase. Paul Worrilow, T.J. Edwards and Alex Singleton could also see the increased time. Worrilow has missed the past week with a knee injury.
