There isn’t going to be a lot of mystery surrounding the players who make the Pittsburgh Steelers final roster. But there are some spots that will be tightly contested. We don’t know which 53 players will make it but here are three guys every Steeler fans should be rooting for to stick around.
LB Ulysees Gilbert III
The Steelers have a handful of young linebackers on the roster who will be trying to hang on to back up Devin Bush and Vince Williams. But none bring the type of athleticism and excitement Gilbert does. He flashed his playmaking last preseason but won’t get the chance this time around. Nevertheless, if you want speed on defense, you don’t want to let Gilbert get away.
RB Kerrith Whyte Jr.

Speaking of speed and athleticism, let’s talk about Whyte. The Steelers signed Whyte off of the Chicago Bears practice squad late last season and he made his presence felt. He averaged 5.1 yards per carry and added deep speed to the depth chart. The Steelers drafted another speedy back this year in Anthony McFarland Jr. but Whyte is just scratching the surface of his skills.
CB James Pierre

The Steelers currently have one of the most talented and deepest cornerback groups this team has had under head coach Mike Tomlin. The emergence of Mike Hilton and Cameron Sutton give the Steelers a group that every passing offense will be hard to contend with. But don’t sleep on the rookie Pierre. In the right scheme and with good coaching he could be an interception machine in zone coverage.
