Three people were shot Monday in Chicago, all of whom were wounded in Austin on the West Side.

In the day’s latest shooting, a 47-year-old man was on the sidewalk about 4:30 p.m. when someone shot at him from a black vehicle in the 5400 block of West Adams Street, according to Chicago police.

He was hit in both hands and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, police said.

Only 15 minutes earlier, an 18-year-old man was shot multiple times in a parking lot.

The man was in a parking lot about 4:13 p.m. in the 5100 block of West Chicago Avenue when someone approached him, pulled out a handgun and opened fire, police said.

The man was hit in the chest, buttocks and abdomen, police said. He was taken to Stroger Hospital in serious condition.

A 22-year-old man was taken into custody in connection with the shooting, and a weapon was recovered, police said.

The first shooting of the day forced a man to take shelter inside an Austin grade school after being struck.

Multiple people began firing shots at the man after he crashed his vehicle into two other vehicles about about 8 a.m. in the 5600 block of West Washington Boulevard,

“Offenders in both cars got out and started shooting at him,” a police spokeswoman said.

The wounded man, 37, took shelter in a school on that block, police said. Catalyst Circle Rock Charter School, at 5608 W Washington Blvd., is located there.

Police said the school was briefly placed on lockdown, although no one in the school was in danger.

The man was taken in good condition to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood for treatment of a gunshot wound, according to police and Chicago Fire Dept. officials.

Reached by phone, an employee of the school said all of the students were safe.

It was unclear if the crash and shooting were intentional, or the result of road rage, a police spokeswoman said. The wounded man was allegedly not cooperating with investigators.

Monday’s shootings follow a weekend in which 20 people were shot, one of them fatally.
