Nov. 12--An umbrella in one hand and a camera in the other, an evidence technician snapped a picture of a shell casing as police investigated a shooting of a man this morning in the East Garfield Park neighborhood.
The man was shot around 9 a.m. near the corner of Ferdinand Street and Hamlin Avenue, according to police. He was hit in the back and arm and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in serious condition, police said.
The man ran north after getting shot, police said, and paramedics found him north of Ferdinand Street.
Officers used a brick to mark the location of the shell casing, which was found in front of a white house with a wrought iron fence next to a vacant lot at the corner.
While police guarded the West Side crime scene, a 36-year-old man was shot in the South Chicago neighborhood.
He was wounded about 10 a.m. in the 8400 block of South Muskegon Avenue. The 36-year-old was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in serious condition, police said.
Police said three people were arrested after a chase down Indianapolis Boulevard that ended in Indiana.
Later, about 10:45 a.m., a 54-year-old man was shot in the 10700 block of South Green Bay Avenue in the East Side neighborhood, Chicago Police Department News Affairs Officer Janel Sedevic said.
He was seated in a car when someone shot him in the arm, Sedevic said. The man walked into Advocate Trinity Hospital to be treated for his wound.
Later Tuesday afternoon, a man was shot in the Fernwood neighborhood about 3:30 p.m.
The man was in the 200 block of West 104th Place when he was shot in the back about 3:30 p.m., said Police News Affairs Officer Thomas Sweeney.
The man was taken to Christ Medical Center, where he was in serious condition, Sweeney said.
Police were unable to immediately determine the circumstances of the shooting because the man shot was uncooperative.
