3 Seahawks who could make their first Pro Bowl in 2019

Last season, despite a 10-6 record and a playoff berth, the Seattle Seahawks had just three players chosen for the Pro Bowl: punter Michael Dickson, linebacker Bobby Wagner and quarterback Russell Wilson, who was an alternate.

Many felt that Seattle deserved to have more representation at the Pro Bowl, with players like Frank Clark, Tyler Lockett and Duane Brown worthy of consideration.

Regardless, Dickson Wagner and Wilson are all strong candidates to make the Pro Bowl once again next season. They could be joined by a variety of newcomers from the Seahawks as well.

Here are three Seahawks who have yet to make a Pro Bowl in their careers, who could be first-timers in 2019.

Chris Carson, Running Back

Carson carried the ball 247 times for 1,151 yards and nine touchdowns last season, in 14 games played. He ranked fifth in rushing yards, seventh in rushing touchdowns and fourth in rushing yards per game last season, putting him right on the edge of a Pro Bowl berth.

Second-year running back Rashaad Penny is expected to have a bigger role in the offense next season, but as long as Carson is healthy this is his backfield.

If he is able to play in all 16 games, and his offensive line continues to grow, Carson has a good chance to rush for 1,200 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2019. That would put him squarely in the conversation for his first Pro Bowl nod in his third year in the league.

Jarran Reed, Defensive Tackle

Jarran Reed broke out in a huge way last season, recording 10.5 sacks after only tallying three in his first two seasons combined. He was a run-stuffing defensive tackle both at Alabama and in his first two NFL seasons, so seeing him develop into an elite pass rushing interior defensive tackle was a welcome development for Seattle’s defense.

Reed will be joined by powerful run stuffer Poona Ford on the starting line next season, which should free him up to wreak even more havoc on opposing quarterbacks.

The 26-year-old will be a leader on this young defensive front, and if he can develop into a more consistent player week in and week out, he has a great chance of making his first Pro Bowl next season.

Bradley McDougald, Safety

Bradley McDougald took over as Seattle’s primary strong safety last season, replacing future Ring of Honor member Kam Chancellor.

McDougald did his best to give the Seahawks that elite combination of thump and coverage that Chancellor excelled at. The results speak for themselves, as McDougald tallied 66 solo tackles, nine passes defended, three interceptions and three forced fumbles while manning the box for the Seahawks.

Seattle drafted two safeties, Marquise Blair and Ugo Amadi, both who are expected to compete for playing time right away. Blair is in the mold of Chancellor, which could push McDougald over to the free safety spot if he is able to impress in camp.

Regardless, McDougald has the tools necessary to compete for a spot on the Pro Bowl roster, and if he is able to stay healthy next season there’s reason to believe he will earn his first nod in 2019.
