3 reasons why the Eagles will beat the Detroit Lions

The Philadelphia Eagles are set to return to Lincoln Financial Field to battle the visiting Detroit Lions. After a heartbreaking loss to the Falcons in Atlanta, the Eagles will try to rebound in the comforts of their home field.

With Matt Patricia and company currently 1-0-1 on the season, here are 3 reasons why the Carson Wentz and the Eagles will defeat the Detroit Lions.

1. Fletcher Cox has a huge game

The Eagles have a talented defensive line led by one of the best interior tackles in football. Fletcher Cox is starting to feel better and that could bold well for the Eagles stingy run defense.

If the Eagles can slow down Kerryon Johnson with their front seven, then Philadelphia can turn the Lions into a one-dimensional ball club, placing the game in the hands of Matthew Stafford.

2. Zach Ertz looks like the 2018 version

Ertz set an NFL record with 116 receptions last season and he’s due for a breakout performance. He has 13 receptions for 126 yards after two games but has yet to register a touchdown. With Alshon Jeffery and DeSean Jackson out, look for Ertz and Wentz to return to their early 2018 form that saw the Eagles quarterback feed his tight end.

3. Carson Wentz outduels Matthew Stafford

Wentz performed poorly against the Falcons from a statistical standpoint, completing just 58 percent of his passes for 231 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions. The grit, courage, and determination he showed in willing his team back can only do wonders for Wentz’s confidence. Wentz’ looks poised to light up the Lions Secondary, without two of his biggest stars. Add in Wentz’s numbers in home games and he could put himself back in the MVP conversation.
