When the Pittsburgh Steelers traded up for linebacker Devin Bush, everyone knew they got one of the top playmakers in the draft. Bush is an explosive playmaker with elite speed and an incredible all-around skill set. And he landed on the best team he possibly could to see early success. In fact, here are three reasons Bush should be the frontrunner to win defensive rookie of the year.
Opportunity
There’s no player on the roster to push Bush for playing time. Jon Bostic is gone and free-agent addition Mark Barron can’t touch what Bush brings to the field. Pittsburgh didn’t trade up for Bush if they didn’t plan to play him.
Confidence of the team

Just going off of the comments coming out of organized team activities, the team — players and coaches alike — have been impressed with what they have seen from Bush. Now that OTAs are a wrap, Bush can come back to mandatory minicamp and ultimately training camp. This will be where we see the level of confidence the staff has in putting Bush into a leadership role.
Versatility

Perhaps best of all, Bush should be considered a top candidate for DROY is because he can do everything. The Steelers are going to ask Bush to do everything and he’s going to deliver. Bush’s boxscore is going to change week to week but by the end of the season don’t be shocked if Bush is close to 100 tackles but also filling in four or five interceptions and the same number of sacks.
