3 Rangers outsiders namechecked as contenders to star against Celtic

Gary McAllister has tipped a trio of fringe players to come into the mix against Celtic – amid uncertainty in the wake of the Covid chaos that ripped through the club this week.

Steven Gerrard and six Rangers first team stars were absent for the 0-0 Europa League draw away to Alashkert on Thursday but hopes remain a rule change surrounding double vaccinated players could benefit them.

And McAllister is in confident mood as he named new signing Juninho Bacuna, Brandon Baker and Niko Katic as players who could come into the mix.

Rangers face a quick turnaround after their trip to Armenia and fresh legs could be sought when they take on their great rivals in the High Noon showdown on Sunday.

He said: “I’m pleased to let you know that everybody came through unscathed. Scott Arfield took a blow on his big toe, took one early in the game and got smashed later.

“After the game he’s reported fine so everybody came through unscathed last night.

“We’ve got people coming back from suspension, non squad players will come into the reckoning as well who didn’t travel – Bacuna, Barker and Katic.

“So we’re bolstered, we’ve got a wee bit more bodies in the squad.”
