The Philadelphia Eagles will enter the 2020 NFL season with championship aspirations and the hopes of repeating as division champions.
The key to any postseason success will be the Birds’ ability to avoid losing to teams that they are clearly better than. The Eagles can’t afford to have two or three games this season where they play down to the level of their competition.
With several heavyweight matchups on the 2020 NFL schedule, here are 3 potential trap games for the Eagles this season:
***

WEEK 1: @Washington Redskins Sun 09/13 · 1:00 PM EDT
While the Redskins are rebuilding, the Eagles will enter the game with expectations, a fully healthy offense, and the best quarterback in the division under the center. The only thing worse than a significant injury happening in the season opener would be an embarrassing road loss to a Washington team starting a second-year quarterback and undergoing a complete rebuild.
With a home game against the LA Rams looming in Week 2, the Eagles can’t get caught sleeping during the season opener in what will likely be an empty FedExField.

WEEK 3: Cincinnati Bengals Sun 09/27 · 1:00 PM EDT
In a game featuring another rebuilding team, the Eagles will host No. 1 pick Joe Burrows and the Bengals at home one week before traveling to San Francisco for a showdown on Sunday night football against the 49ers.
With Joe Mixon, a healthy A.J. Green and Burrows, the Bengals could cause a problem for an Eagles team that could be looking ahead one week.

WEEK 11: @Cleveland Browns Sun 11/22 · 1:00 PM EST
Unlike the matchups with the Redskins and Bengals, the Browns will enter the 2020 NFL season with expectations after hiring Kevin Stefanski as head coach and Andrew Berry as GM. Berry has familiarity with the Eagles organization and the Birds will be traveling to face an offense that features Baker Mayfield, Nick Chubbs, Kareem Hunt, Odell Beckham, and Jarvis Landry.
An already competitive game on paper, the Eagles could be looking ahead to three straight huge games against the Seahawks, Packers, and hated Saints.
