Now that the Indianapolis Colts have agreed to terms with quarterback Philip Rivers, where does that leave Jacoby Brissett? Fresh off a new contract extension in 2019, Brissett struggled in his first real season as the full-time starter and with that, the Colts found an upgrade.
With Brissett’s contract, according to OverTheCap, if the Colts were to trade him before June 1, they would save almost $16 million in cap room, and only have $5 million in dead cap money. If they were to cut him at any time though, they would owe him $12.5 million, and save only $8 million.
So with the possibility of the Colts trading Jacoby Brissett, let’s look at some possible trade destinations, and what Indianapolis could get for him:

New England Patriots
The former employer. As many know, Brissett was traded to Indianapolis from New England right before the 2017 season for Phillip Dorsett. With Brady announcing he’s not coming back to the Patriots, that leaves a big hole in their roster.
New England has only fourth-round pick Jarrett Stidham on the roster at quarterback and could be in the market for another one. With the familiarity factor in play between Brissett and the Patriots, this trade could happen. There isn’t any concrete evidence yet but think of it like connecting the dots with the Colts and Rivers this offseason.
The Patriots, as with every year, have a slew of draft picks. There could be a deal for New England to send their fourth-round pick (125) and possibly one of their three seventh-round picks (230, 235 or 241). It’s unlikely the Colts get one of the three third-round picks, but they should certainly inquire about that.

Los Angeles Chargers
How about a Rivers for Brissett swap? With Tom Brady going to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Chargers could be looking for a quarterback to work alongside Tyrod Taylor.
Currently, Los Angeles has Taylor on their active roster but they also own the No. 6 overall pick in this year’s draft and with the way free agency has gone, they are trending to be a landing spot for a quarterback.
If the Colts were going to trade Brissett to the Chargers, they could get LA’s 5th round pick at 151 overall, or maybe their 4th rounder, pick 112.

Chicago Bears
The Mitchell Trubisky era is coming to an end and with him still on his rookie contract, the Bears can afford the potential cap hit of $15 million. They could also negotiate for the Colts to take on the $7 million roster bonus seeing as they can handle it.
The Bears are certainly in the market for a quarterback, and Brissett could be what they need. He’s more accurate than Trubisky and given the state of their defense, he might be a better fit in Matt Nagy’s offense.
The Colts could target a Day 3 pick from the Bears. The highest they likely could get for Brissett would be a fourth-round compensatory pick, which currently sits at No. 140 overall. The Bears also have two sixth and two seventh-round picks to work with.
